The Fear Of Being Yourself
I think we all put on a facade when we meet a new group of people, even i still do because I (we) fear of being judge, not being enough - The fear of being your true self around others is terrifying. I like that I'm kind, caring, creative and how imaginative i can be - i like that i see the good in people, the beauty in life and the love i have for animals, the love i have for my family and how important family is.
Being your true self is scary around anyone. Personally it takes me a long time to take down my walls and let myself just be. The first sign for me being comfortable around anybody is being able to sit in silence and it's not weird or awkward, comfortable silences are the best. I think the fear of somebody judging or thinking badly is something that none of us want to deal with and it's inevitably going to occur at some point in life. I still struggle with confidence, asking for help just generally letting myself open up and most days i am my own worst enemy, it's only natural to judge but to negatively judge is hurtful
Even in the blogging world a facade is put up, we let ourselves be honest bit by bit and that's okay, we are all at different stages of our lives, I'm still wary of who i should open up to.
I've got a huge heart but I'm cautious of who I let see that and then it takes a long time for me to feel comfortable enough to let my barriers down. Vulnerability is something that terrifies me, I don't like to burden anybody.
Of course, then there is the natural fact that we're all a little bit weird. We all have those funny little traits, the things that make us unique. Without those mannerisms then what would ever make us stand out? Those are the things that we should celebrate and not shy away from showing to others. If people think you're strange then they're not the type of person you want/should be around. I've always found those traits can often draw people in rather than push them away.
Speaking truth and claiming your identity are powerful things. When you know who you are, and when you shape your history into a coherent narrative, you put your life into clearer perspective. You might even feel more confident moving forward. Maybe online is the right place for you to be your whole self, and maybe it isn’t. But somewhere in your life, make space to set down the masks and be unfiltered. It's important to love and have confidence in ourselves, and that soon becomes acceptance.
Bit by bit i am being myself in real life and in the blogging world, and it feels good. We are all wonderfully unique and special, being different is a good thing and being yourself is even better - being yourself is about confidence, being yourself is embracing all those interesting things about you and your flaws, i think we let our insecurities override our thoughts which does more damage than good. Be the best version of yourself, be better than you were yesterday.
